DEPARTMENT OF ORAL PATHOLOGY AND ORAL MICROBIOLOGY

TOPIC: “THE SILENT POWER HOUSE: DECODING FROM ANATOMY TO AI ”

On 29th July 2026, The Department of Anatomy, in collaboration with the Department of Oral Pathology, organized an interdisciplinary meeting at Shri PadmavathyAmmal Memorial Auditorium. The session began with a detailed case scenario and clinical findings.

The session, titled “The silent power house: Decoding from Anatomy to AI ” highlighted the Saliva plays a crucial role in oral pathology by protecting oral tissues and serving as a valuable diagnostic medium. Changes in salivary flow, pH, composition, and biomarkers provide important clinical findings for diagnosing conditions such as xerostomia, dental caries, periodontal disease, salivary gland disorders, Sjögren's syndrome, oral infections, and oral cancer. Salivary analysis is increasingly used as a simple, non-invasive tool for early detection and monitoring of oral and systemic diseases. In order to that dental practice goes beyond mere diagnosis and requires an in-depth understanding Anatomy of Parotid salivary gland and its role in diagnosis and management.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the investigation and diagnosis of parotid gland diseases by enhancing the interpretation of ultrasound, CT, MRI, PET-CT, cytology, histopathology, and salivary biomarker analysis. AI improves the accuracy of differentiating benign from malignant tumors, supports surgical planning and prognosis, and enables more personalized patient care. While AI has significant advantages, it should be used as a decision-support tool alongside the expertise of radiologists, pathologists, and oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

The programme was Chaired by Dr.VIJAY V.K Director cum Principal, RVS Dental college and Hospital and conducted under the guidance of Dr.Palaniyappan K., Mrs. Rajimol V., Senior Lecturer (Department of Anatomy), Dr.Kavitha.M, Professor and Head, Dr.Raghu Dhanapal, Professor, Dr.Gowri Shankar.P, Reader, Dr.Jayasri.P.A, Senior lecturer, Department of Oral Pathology and Oral Microbiology.
