DOWN SYNDROME DAY CELEBRATION 2025

The Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry at RVS Dental College & Hospital, Coimbatore, celebrated *Down Syndrome Day* in collaboration with Kaumaran Prashanthi Academy. The event aimed to raise awareness and promote oral health among special children, particularly those with Down Syndrome.
### *Key Highlights:*
- *Welcome:* 65 special children with 12 special educators arrived at 10:30 AM and were greeted by *Dr. Vijay V.K.*, Principal and Administrative officer greeted them with plant saplings and balloons featuring the quote “Spreading happiness through your smiles.”
- - *Guest of Honour:* *Dr. Deepa Mohanraj*, Founder of Kaumaran Prashanthi Academy, was invited as the Guest of Honour.
- *Oral Health Assessment:* Postgraduates and faculty assessed the children’s oral health and provided education on diet, brushing habits, and dental visits.
- *Special Activities:* After the lamp lighting ceremony by the Chief Guest and Heads of Departments, the children participated in games, sketching, coloring, clay activities, and talent exhibitions (singing, dancing, and music).
- *Motivational Gifts:* The children received certificates, gifts and oral health care kits (toothbrushes and toothpaste) as encouragement.
- Head of the department of Pedodontics Professor Dr Nagendran addressed the gathering
- - Dr Narmatha (Reader) gave a brief on importances to celebrate Down syndrome day.
- *Interactive Sessions:* Faculty, including *Dr. Karthika, **Dr. Mallika* and *Dr. Sharmila*, engaged with teachers and caregivers, emphasizing the importance of oral health.
- *Collaborative Support:* Faculties from *Public health Dentistry, Oral medicine, Oral surgery, Periodontics, Orthodontics, Prosthodontics,Conservative Dentistry and Oral pathology * helped us to manage the event.
- *Refreshments:* The college management provided free lunch and refreshments for the children.
The event was a joyful and informative celebration that highlighted the importance of oral health while fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere for special children.
